The deep gutter in front of the Surf Club The natural beach profile here creates the deepest consistent gutter in Newcastle. Salmon patrol this depth regularly because it holds bait even on smaller swells. LOOK FOR: Dark water much closer to shore than other beaches.
Southern end near rocks where gutter meets reef The transition from sand gutter to rock reef creates a natural bottleneck. Fish cruising the gutter get funnelled past the reef edge. LOOK FOR: Darker water deepening near the rock platform.
The "corner" where beach curves Baitfish get trapped in the curve with nowhere to go. The beach geometry creates a natural dead-end that concentrates schools. LOOK FOR: Bait flicking on surface in the curve, birds working overhead.

Casting technique
